The groom's cake tradition started in the South 200 years ago. Nearly every wedding in the South has a groom's cake. Today, groom's cakes are often theme cakes and made to look like a football helmet or golf bag. This can be really cute and a nice touch, but some people go a little too far and order a cake that is truly in bad taste and embarassing to the groom and everyone else at the reception.
