Emily Watson, of Dayton, Ohio, couldn't wait to show off the cake she had picked to her new family and friends.

"My cake looked like a pile of bird droppings," Emily said. "I told the baker I wanted a simple elegant finish without much detail, and this is what showed up! I felt like it was 1970 retro or something!"

Jill Gillespie of Miami Florida wanted a one-of-a-kind, memorable reception, with a cake that her friends would never forget. She got it.

"My guests called it the Weed Cake", Jill said. "I told the baker I wanted flowers with a tiny bit of greenery. Instead of a knife, Jeff wanted to cut it with a lawn mower!"

The groom's cake was an elegant tradition that originated in the South nearly 200 years ago. But they had no idea what we would do to it up North:
